Last weekend a bunch of us went to our Summer Conference Activate. This year was our largest delegation with tons of members both new and old attending talks, training sessions and policy debates over the weekend. Thank you so much to everyone who came and made it so successful this year!
With over double our usual attendance, we couldn’t rely on the old sleeping bags in a church hall accommodation. Our Events Officers really went the extra mile and found us some very swanky rooms in Birmingham University’s halls of residence as well as a lecture theatre to hold our policy discussions in.
For those of you who missed us, some of our highlights were:
- Liberal Youth will now oppose minimum alcohol pricing and welfare cuts to young people while campaigning to save the BBC and promote better sex education in schools.
- Also, Liberal Youth has created the position of an Access and Welfare Officer on the Executive which you will be able to stand for in our upcoming elections! Our other positions also will be up for election so look out for emails on the near future for more details!
- We received a number of training sessions: from what it is like to stand in elections by Hannah Bettsworth and a membership development talk from Rachel Edwards to guest speakers training us on how to use Connect and improving our Canvassing skills!
- To top all of this off, we had speeches from Jo Swinson, who gave a fantastic account of her journey from Liberal Youth member to Government Minister, and Lorely Burt, who gave a frank insight into life in the coalition.
