International Officer

Catriona McDougall

Executive Duties:

i. Manage relations with the Young Liberals’ international affiliates and the youth wings of liberal political parties across the world;

ii. Manage relations with groups within the Liberal Democrats with an international agenda;

iii. Advise the Executive or members on international issues where relevant;

iv. Co-ordinate international trips for members, including to events run by international affiliates.


Catriona is from Southampton where she originally got involved with the Liberal Democrats, joining after the 2016 EU referendum. She moved to London to study Mechanical Engineering at university. Serving two terms as London Regional Chair for Young Liberals, she sat on the London Regional Executive where she secured funding for London Young Liberals to be self-sufficient, grew members, and supported 22 Young & Winning candidates in the 2018 Council Elections, alongside running herself in Islington. 

In 2019, after the previous officer resigned, Catriona was co-opted as Events Officer for Young Liberals. Hosting Activate in London, with the second-highest attendance at a Young Liberals conference ever, over half of whom were first-time attendees and securing Siobhan Benita, Tessa Munt and Jo Swinson to talk. 

Now as International Officer Catriona works with our European and International sister parties through LYMEC and IFLRY. Attending events leading the Young Liberals delegation, working on policies, elections and join campaigns. She also represents Young Liberals on the Federal International Relations Committee of the Liberal Democrats. 

In her personal time Catriona was a synchronised swimmer at national level, figure skates for fun, enjoys video games and watches a lot of sci-fi films and shows.
