The Liberal Democrats are placing improving mental health services at the heart of our manifesto. One in 10 children and young people suffer from mental health problems, and Liberal Youth want to see an improvement in the quality of services available to help support young people.
For those at university, many universities and their Student Unions have put a lot of effort and resources into their mental health and welfare services. When accessed and used to their full potential, these services can provide a lifeline for those who are finding it hard to cope. Yet for many new and visiting students, transitioning into these services is another challenge at a difficult time. For others, the services can fail to continue to provide the level of support they need throughout their time at university.
It doesn’t have to be like that.
The Mental Well-Being in Higher Education working group published new guidelines for Universities on the 13th of February, which can be found here. Liberal Youth wants to see them be adopted across all institutions.
