Sheffield Liberal Democrats have handed in their petition to the University of Sheffield to guarantee the University Arms. The petition has been signed by over 1700 students, staff and residents, in response to the University’s Campus Masterplan, which included a proposal to demolish the pub.
The Liberal Democrats have been campaigning for the University to guarantee the future of the pub
Harry Matthews, Liberal Youth member and Liberal Democrat candidate for Crookes ward, said:
“The University says that they wanted the public to respond - and they have. It is clear that University must not proceed with their proposal to demolish the University Arms.”
Marcus Foster, co-chair of Sheffield Liberal Youth, said:
"The University Arms is a beautiful building as well as a great real ale pub, and is used by many of the students, societies and staff that the University is supposed to cater for. Its demolition would be a massive loss to the University Campus and to Sheffield."
