Communications Officer
The Communications Officer does many tasks, including:
Email newsletters, and supporting other email communications to the wider membership.
Social media posts on the Federal Young Liberals account.
Manages the Communications and Campaigns Committee, who are there to support social media posts, and for opinions on many things, such as on Freshers’ Packs.
Submitting any press releases from YL.
Managing YLers with the media, both in general (e.g. radio, or news invites) and at conferences.
Sits on the Elections Committee.
For the Youth Manifesto, taking on the “second stage” after the policy people get a vision – mainly to change around wordings to make it more attractive, artwork, and publish. This is applicable in election years, or 2 years after the previous Youth Manifesto, whichever is earlier.
Updating the website on communications matters, including the News Page. You are however not expected to do any jobs of the secretary, e.g. putting a link to minutes on the website.
Social media posts should usually be delegated to the Communications and Campaigns Committee, though you will still need to have some input on them.
Elections communications, and stuff which is confined to a geographical area should be the responsibility of English Regional Chairs / Comms Officers, or for Wales and Scotland, their Chair / Comms Officer.
The time input varies. On average it is 10 hours per week, with “heavier” periods of times including Federal & YL Conferences, and the elections (particularly if many regional chairs can’t handle their communications), with “lighter” periods of time being over Christmas and the “summer holidays” (except conference).
