Manchester: The Young Liberals have today launched For a Fair Future, a new Youth Manifesto setting out a bold liberal vision for the next generation.

Launched at the Young Liberals Summer Conference in Manchester, the manifesto responds to the challenges facing young people across the UK, including the housing crisis, rising living costs, declining public services, and the climate emergency.

The manifesto calls for action to deliver affordable homes, fairer wages, stronger mental health support, improved public transport, votes at 16, and a renewed European future for Britain.

Young Liberals Chair Will Tennison said:

“We have grown up through economic instability, a housing crisis, disruption to our education, Brexit, COVID and an accelerating climate emergency. These are the results of political choices made at the expense of young people.
This manifesto sets out a positive vision for a fairer future — one where young people can afford a home, access high-quality education and healthcare, and have genuine opportunities to succeed regardless of their background.
Young people deserve better, and the Young Liberals will continue fighting to make that future a reality.”

Key proposals include:

  • A major programme of housebuilding and action to tackle homelessness.
  • Fairer pay and welfare protections for young workers.
  • Expanded mental health support and reform of education funding.
  • Stronger action on climate change and investment in clean energy.
  • Votes at 16 and wider democratic reform.
  • Rejoining the European Union and restoring opportunities through Erasmus+.

The Young Liberals are calling on policymakers, Liberal Democrats, and young people across the country to support a fairer future for the next generation.
